Arc 1.8.9

Arc 1.8.9 turns longer agent work into a durable run you can inspect, steer, resume, and finish cleanly. Agents can browse and preview what they build, work with pasted images, and use a clearer connection system for hosted and local models. Shared local-model servers use memory more efficiently, while stronger process custody and recovery keep browsers, previews, files, and managed turns dependable across restarts.

Highlights

  • Commission a durable run for work that should survive a single turn. Arc records its seats, wake-ups, progress, advisory usage, and completion state, so you can steer active work, recover after a restart, and tell a clean finish from an abandoned process.
  • Agents can open a bounded browser, inspect and interact with pages, capture screenshots, and run daemon-owned previews of the sites they build. Browser actions and room media are recorded as durable events and artifacts, giving vision-capable agents an auditable path from an image to the work they perform.
  • Hosted providers and connections now share one system, with direct Anthropic and OpenAI-compatible routes, environment-held credentials, predictable rate-limit handling, headless management, and visible spend and cache metrics. Start Here and Add Agents reveal advanced controls only when the selected model is ready for them.
  • Local seats using the same model now share one llama-server instead of loading another full copy of the weights for every seat. Images can be pasted directly into the composer, and Full Access read tools can inspect absolute paths elsewhere on your machine while writes remain confined to the project folder.

Fixes and refinements

  • Closing a browser, stopping a preview, or shutting down Arc on Windows now reaps the entire owned process tree, with native command-line custody and bounded recovery for orphaned helpers and locked profiles.
  • Managed runs recover from stale hosted probes, incompatible tool calls, context overflows, completed-worker cleanup, reconnects, attached-daemon drains, and slow local streams instead of silently wedging or converting healthy work into a timeout.
  • Packaged daemon contents are checked against a declared policy, so optional Python packages installed on a build machine can no longer silently change the application shipped from the same commit.
  • Files written by modern named seats show their chips again, resolve from that seat project folder, and can open browser-safe HTML, SVG, and PDF content directly after Arc revalidates the reference.
  • Busy seats can be steered or queued from the composer again, and healthy slow local models are no longer cut off at five minutes: the timeout now measures silence between streamed chunks rather than total answer time.
